HARRISONBURG, VA. – The George Mason baseball team was limited to two hits and dropped its midweek, nonconference game at James Madison, 14-0, on Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg, Va.
The Dukes (1-3) batted around and scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first against Patriots (1-3) sophomore starter
Christian Mracna.
James Madison used the long ball in the inning to build the lead. Sophomore center fielder Chase DeLauter connected for a solo home run. Then the Dukes loaded the bases with a double, a walk and a single, to set the table for junior catcher Travis Reifsnider, who hit a grand slam.
The Dukes batted around again in the home half of the second, adding three runs on three hits and three walks against Mason sophomore
Ryan Peterson to increase the lead to 8-0.
James Madison added two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh to extend the advantage to 14-0.
Sophomore second baseman
Brett Stallings singled in the fifth, while
Scott Morgan had a pinch-hit single in the seventh to account for the only hits in the game for Mason.
The Patriots had just six baserunners, with James Madison pitchers facing the minimum of 27 batters in the game.
For the Patriots, Mracna (0-2) allowed five runs on five hits in one inning. Peterson surrendered five runs on five hits in 3.0 innings. Freshman
Dylan Crowley gave up three runs on three hits in 1.1 innings. Senior
Hugh O'Hara retired two batters in the sixth inning. Sophomore

Dukes senior starter Liam McDonnell (1-0) tossed four scoreless innings and struck out five batters to earn the win. Sophomore Ryan Murphy also pitched four scoreless frames, and allowed Mason's two hits. Graduate student Michael Stewart pitched the ninth.
The Patriots are back in action this weekend facing Presbyterian College on Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Clinton, S.C. Mason will then face Boston College on Saturday at 12 p.m. and USC Upstate on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.
