FAIRFAX, Va. — The George Mason women's basketball team fell to Saint Louis, 58-35, in its home finale on Wednesday night inside EagleBank Arena.
Mason struggled offensively, shooting a season-low 26.3 percent from the field (15-57). The Patriots failed to make a three-pointer until the 4:08-mark in the fourth quarter, shooting a season-low 7.1 percent from deep (1-14).
SLU owned a +21 advantage on the glass (51-30) and pulled down 14 offensive boards which resulted in 12 points for the Billikens. In addition, SLU was +24 in points in the paint (36-12) and +9 in assists (13-4).
Sophomore Jazmyn Doster pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds while senior Amaya Scott scored a team-high 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
Both teams struggled to score in the first five minutes of the game with the score tied at the media timeout (4-4). SLU went on a 6-2 run before a Doster jumper brought Mason within two at the end of the period (12-10). Doster pulled down seven of her 11 rebounds in the quarter.
Despite a strong showing on defense, Mason struggled on the offensive end of the floor in the first half. Mason went scoreless for nearly five minutes with four turnovers for a nine-point SLU advantage at the break (25-14).
Saint Louis went on an 11-2 run to lead by 19 with 2:39 to go in the third quarter (38-19). Taylor Jameson hit a jumper to end the scoring drought with 1:55 on the clock (38-21). A Scott and-1 cut the deficit to 16 with one quarter remaining (40-24).
Mason couldn't pull closer than 17 for the remainder of the game as SLU earned the victory, 58-35.
