Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The George Mason women's basketball team came up short against Revolutionary Rival George Washington on Wednesday, falling 65-57 inside the Charles E. Smith Center in Washington, D.C.

Rebounding proved to be the difference in Wednesday night's contest. GW held a +19 advantage on the glass (43-24), and pulled down 21 offensive boards which resulted in 18 points for the Colonials.

Sophomore Taylor Jameson led the Patriots with a career-high 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting. She made a career-high five three-pointers on 11 attempts. It marked the first 20-spot of her career.

Jameson erupted for 14 points in the second half alone (4-6 3FG) with 12 points coming in the third quarter. She has now scored in double figures nine times in Atlantic 10 play.

Junior Jazmyn Doster added 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting to go along with six rebounds. Junior Jordan Wakefield finished with a team-high eight rebounds.

Mason shot 43.8 percent from the floor (21-48) and 45.0 percent from three-point range (9-20).

GW was 40.7 percent from the field (24-59) and 35.3 percent from three-point range (6-17).

Mason owned the advantage early after an Amaya Scott layup (10-7). The Colonials then scored six straight to lead at the first media timeout (13-10). GW went 3-of-3 from deep in the first quarter to lead by two (17-15).

Mason reclaimed the lead after a three-pointer from Tamia Lawhorne, followed by layup from Doster (20-19). GW jumped back in front thanks to a 10-2 run (29-22). A pair of free throws from Jameson ended the spurt. Both teams then went scoreless for the remainder of the first half (29-24).

GW came out firing on all cylinders, outscoring Mason 12-5 in the first four minutes of the third quarter (41-29). Jameson then went on an emphatic solo 6-0 run with back-to-back three-pointers (43-37). In total, the Patriots ended the quarter on a 12-2 run to trail by four (45-41). Jameson scored 12 points with four three-pointers in the period.

Mason pulled within two to start the fourth quarter after a jumper by Jameson (45-43). GW then scored six straight (50-43) before Jayla Adams hit back-to-back baskets (50-48). That would be as close as the Patriots would get as the Colonials held on for the victory, 65-57.

Up next, Mason hosts VCU for Senior Day on Saturday at 3 p.m. inside EagleBank Arena. Mason will honors its three seniors: Milica Manojlovic, Livija Kaktaite and Amaya Scott.
