George Mason men's soccer head coach Elmar Bolowich has announced that the team has added Daniel Welsh to the staff as an assistant coach.

"Daniel Welsh has an extensive background in playing and coaching soccer for many years," Bolowich said.  "We appreciate having him join the Patriot coaching staff and look forward to integrating him in the daily operations of our program."

Welsh, a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, is also currently a head coach with BRYC Boys ECNL in Fairfax, Va., where he has spent the past seven seasons.  During his time with BRYC, 23 of his players have gone to play collegiate soccer.

The founder of Welsh Soccer in 2021, he provides supplemental soccer training for travel, collegiate and professional players, and coordinates camps for youth travel players in Fairfax, Va.

Welsh worked with Northern Virginia United FC as the General Manager and led negotiations with key personnel from professional club Dundee United Football Club that resulted in an official partnership in 2021. As part of his responsibilities, he recruited ex-professional players and high-level college players to the team, and prepared scouting reports.

Welsh is a graduate of The University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Sociology.  He was a member of the Men's Soccer team at UCSB where he earned the 2012 UCSB Men's Soccer Defensive MVP and 2013 UCSB Men's Soccer MVP.  Welsh picked up many personal accolades during his time at UCSB including Big West All Conference honors.

Prior to his two years at UCSB, Welsh spent two seasons at The University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he earned America East All Rookie and America East All Conference honors.  He played a pivotal role in UMBC winning the 2010 America East Conference Tournament and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Welsh grew up playing in the Professional Youth Academy system for Livingston FC, Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC and Cowdenbeath FC. During his youth career Welsh won two Scottish Youth Academy League National Titles and two Scottish Youth Academy League Cups.

Welsh signed two full-time professional contracts in Scotland, first with Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC at the age of 17.  He also captained the U18 Scotland Youth National Team.

Welsh was raised in a soccer family.  His father, Brian Welsh, played professionally for fourteen seasons, most notably for Dundee United FC where he was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2012.  His brothers both played NCAA Division 1 Soccer at VCU and Rhode Island.
