FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team won their fifth-straight game in EagleBank Arena on Saturday evening, downing American, 71-59.
Junior
Taylor Jameson led all players with 18 points, her fourth game this season scoring 18 or more points. Meanwhile, senior
Nalani Kaysia scored a career-high 11 points, adding a game-high eight rebounds and a steal.
The teams traded points to open the game until the Eagles (0-7) hit a three-point shot to take a four-point lead with 2:50 remaining which they would maintain until the break and led 17-13 after the first.
The Patriots (5-5) slowly got back in the game behind senior

Nekhu Mitchell, who combined for nine points off the bench. Down 24-20, Mason scored the next seven points to pull ahead 27-24, grabbing a lead they would not give up for the remainder of the game.
After going into the halftime break with a two-point lead, the Mason offense exploded for a 23-point quarter, led by nine points from Kaysia. The senior went 4-4 in the paint, mainly from her three offensive rebounds on second chance points. American hit a field goal with 2:32 remaining in the third, but it would be their last of the stanza as Mason built a 13-point lead with one quarter remaining.
Mason was able to hold American scoreless for over four minutes towards the end of the game to hold off the Eagles as nine different Patriots contributed a point to cruise to the 71-59 victory.
PATRIOT POINTS
- The Patriots tallied a season-high 15 steals, the most since they notched 17 at Rhode Island on Jan. 14, 2018. Graduate student J-Naya Ephraim led the way with a career-best four.
- For the third-straight game, Mason out-rebounded their opponent and was +14 over the Eagles.
- Senior Sonia Smith loaded the stat sheet, registering a season-high six assists and three steals to go with nine points and a rebound. She is now averaging 2.9 assists per game.
- Mason took advantage of American's 26 turnovers, scoring 24 points off turnovers compared to the Eagle's 15 off of the Patriots' 23 miscues.
