MIAMI, Fla. – The George Mason women's basketball team will travel to Miami for the second-straight year, this time to participate in the Holiday Hoops Showdown hosted by Florida International University. The Patriots will take on the host Panthers on Monday and the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks on Tuesday.
 
This is the fourth all-time meeting between the Panthers and the Patriots, with all four meetings happening in Miami. Mason is 2-1, with their lone loss coming back in 2006. Tuesday's meeting will also be the fourth all-time meeting between the Patriots and the Lumberjacks. Mason is 1-2, with the win coming at home in the 2018 WNIT opening round. This is the first neutral site game between the two teams.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
  • Mason picked up their sixth-straight home win on Saturday, Dec. 17, downing Coppin St., 59-51. The streak is the longest since the 2017-2018 season. Between Nov. 2017 and Jan. 2018 when the Patriots won 12-straight in Fairfax.
  • This was the eighth game this season that Mason has out-rebounded their opponent, grabbing two more boards than the visiting Eagles.
  • Taylor Jameson led the Patriots with her second 20-point performance of the season, with three assists, two rebounds and two steals. Nalani Kaysia contributed nine rebounds and a career-high-matching 11 points.
  • Sonia Smith and Paula Suárez were also major contributors, combining for 16 points and eight rebounds. Smith posted three assists and three steals while Suárez had a career-best five rebounds.
 
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Florida International is off to a 4-4 start this season, and dropped their first C-USA contest their last time out at Florida Atlantic, 70-60. The Panthers also fell to Mason conference foe and reigning A-10 champions UMass 95-78 in the FIU Thanksgiving Classic.
 
The Panthers' offense is paced by three players who are averaging in double-figures, led by Sifa Joyeuse with 14.8 points per game and is contributing a team-second-best 5.0 rebounds per game. Kaliah Henderson (11.6 ppg) and Sariana Rodriguez Camacho (10.1) are also contributing double-figures.
 
Mihaela Lazic has dished out a team-high 24 assists for 3.0 per game and Maria Torrez is pulling down a team-best 6.4 rebounds per game to go along with 7.0 points at a team-best .500 efficiency.
 
SCOUTING THE LUMBERJACKS
Stephen F. Austin boasts an 8-2 record and three-game win streak. The Lumberjacks went undefeated at the Clasico Thanksgiving Tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico and their most recent loss was to then-No. 23 Gonzaga 71-59. This week's tournament is the teams' first road games of December.
 
The Lumberjacks are also led by a trio of double-digit scoring averages. Aiyana Johnson is averaging 13.2 points per game and has tallied a team-best 12 blocks. Jordan Harrison has dished out an incredible 47 assists and has tallied 24 steals (both team bests) and is contributing 10.1 points per game.
 
Avery Brittingham leads SFA with 7.7 rebounds per game while tallying 9.0 points per game and has dished out a team-second-best 29 assists this season.

UP NEXT
The Patriots will have a break over the holidays and will reopen play in 2023 with their first Atlantic 10 contest of the season against Dayton in EagleBank Arena. Tip-off on New Year's Day is set for 3 p.m.
