DAVIDSON, N.C. – The George Mason women's volleyball team fell to Davidson for the second time this weekend, 3-0, on the road.
The Patriots (7-20, 3-13) were led by junior
Ewelina Gacek, who tallied a team-high seven kills at an incredible .778 efficiency to go along with seven digs on defense.
It was all Davidson in set one as the Wildcats (20-7, 14-2) never trailed, cruising to a ten-point lead to force a Mason timeout. However, the Patriots were unable to rally and the Wildcats scored the last six points to take set one 25-9.
Mason got off to a stronger start in set two, jumping out to a 5-2 lead on a few Davidson errors and two
Olyvia Kennedy kills. However, five straight Wildcat kills gave them the lead for good. Mason pulled within one again at 12-13, but Davidson strung together five more kills to push the lead to five and cruise to a 25-17 win.
Errors plagued Mason in the beginning of set three, allowing the Wildcats to amass an 18-1 lead. The Patriots would not give up however, as Gacek and Kennedy combined for seven kills down the stretch. The lead was too much to overcome however, and Davidson took the set 25-13.
