DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite freshman
Gabriella Gelfound's third career double-double, the Mason offense was unable to get going on Friday night, ultimately falling to Davidson in three sets.
Gelfound registered 18 assists and 11 digs to along with five kills and a block assist. It is her fifth time this season registering double-digit digs.
The Wildcats (19-7, 13-2) jumped out to an early 10-4 lead to force a Mason timeout. Davidson took advantage of six unforced George Mason hitting errors. However, the Patriots were able to string together some phenomenal defense, outblocking the Wildcats 4.0-1.0 and tallying 13 digs. However, Davidson took set one 25-17.
The Patriots (7-19, 3-12) trailed early in set two, but several kills and aces allowed Mason to get back into the set, pulling within one at 17-16 on a block by Gelfound and graduate student
Peyton Ehmke. However, three-straight Mason errors allowed Davidson to take a 24-17 lead. The Patriots wouldn't go away, putting down two kills and forcing a Davidson error, before a Wildcat kill put Mason in a 2-0 hole.
Set three began in a back-and-forth battle, with six tie scores and two lead changes. Trailing 12-10, sophomore
Olyvia Kennedy converted three-straight kills to give Mason their first lead of the night and force a Davidson timeout. The Wildcats took advantage of the reset however, going on an 8-0 scoring run and take a 19-13 lead. Davidson was efficient down the stretch, hitting at a .300 clip in set three to take the match, 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore Camille Larkin was the most efficient hitter of the night, registering seven kills on 12 attempts with just one error for a .500 efficiency. The middle blocker also notched two block assists and an ace.
- Olyvia Kennedy tallied a team-high eight kills with two block assists and an ace on the night.
- Peyton Ehmke was Mason's best defender at the net, tallying a solo block and two block assists to go along with two kills and a dig.
- Sophomore Damiana Bova-Ford tallied 10 assists on the night, her 20th time this season registering double-digit assists.

The Patriots will have Saturday off before returning to the court against the Wildcats on Sunday, Nov. 6, for an afternoon match. Opening serve is set for 1 p.m.
