FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team secured their third-straight victory on Monday night over William & Mary behind a career-high 21 points from junior
Taylor Jameson.
The junior has set and then bested her season-best in the last three games and is averaging 19.3 ppg over that stretch. Previously, she had tallied 20 points twice, and most recently at St. Bonaventure on Feb. 26, 2022. She also racked up seven rebounds and two assists.
Mason used a hot start and never trailed, jumping out to an 8-0 lead, led by four points by graduate student
J-Naya Ephraim. The Tribe (2-2) got on the board with 3:19 remaining, but two three-pointers by Jameson closed out the quarter with Mason up 16-5.
Senior
Tamia Lawhorne led the Patriots (3-3) with eight points in quarter two as they continued to stretch their lead. Highlighted by a 14-2 run in the middle of the quarter, Mason led by as many as 20 with 5:04 remaining. Freshman
Nekhu Mitchell capped the quarter with a steal and fast break layup and Mason led 38-19 at the break.
The Tribe came out fighting in the second half, as William & Mary's Riley Casey posted 26 second-half points. The Tribe outscored Mason 21-16 in the third quarter as they knocked down 50% of their shots, including three from beyond the arc.
Mason relied on free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the lead, going 8-8 from the line to hold off the opposition. The Tribe pulled within five at 65-60, but the Patriots made the most of their opportunities, hitting all six free throws in the final minute to provide the final tally.
PATRIOT POINTS
- Seniors Tamia Lawhorne and Jazmyn Doster contributed heavily off the bench, combining for 24 points and 10 rebounds. Lawhorne also dished out a career-high four assists and tallied a steal.
- Graduate student Riley Childs notched a game and season-high eight rebounds to lead Mason to a 40-26 rebounding win. She also contributed six points and a block.
- Sophomore Paula Suarez led all players with five assists, a season-high, with four points and a rebound. As a team, Mason dished out 14, also a season-high.
- Despite committing 18 turnovers to the Tribe's 13, the Patriots took better advantage of those turnovers, scoring 21 points to their 20.
- Mason shot 50% or better from the field for the second straight game, while performing a season-best 76.5% from the charity stripe.

The Patriots will spend the Thanksgiving holiday in Bimini, Bahamas for the Goombay Splash Tournament beginning Thursday, Nov. 24. Mason will take on unbeaten LSU, who was most recently ranked No. 12 in the AP Top-25.
