FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's and men's swimming and diving teams completed the first day of competition at the Patriot Invitational, with the women's team is first place and the men's team in third place after day one of the three-day event at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
On the women's side, the Patriots have the lead with 264 points, followed by Towson (233), Florida Atlantic (232), Richmond (140) and Marist (56).
Mason women's team set the school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay for the second straight year at the Patriot Invitational.
The team of graduate student
Jacquee Clabeaux, sophomore
Ali Tyler and
Shannon Judge and freshman
Peyton Brehmer won the event with a time of 1:31.68, besting the previous mark of 1:31.96 which was set last year by
Emma DeJong, Clabeaux, Judge and Tyler.
Tyler set a meet record in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:59.45. Clabeaux took second (2:01.07) and sophomore
Emma DeJong finished fourth (2:03.14) in the event.
In the consolation final of the 200-yard IM, freshman
Brooke Nelson took the top spot (2:04.76) and in the C-Final of the event, junior
Abigail Murtaugh placed first (2:07.80) and sophomore
Emma Burke was second (2:08.36).
Graduate student
Madison Nalls won the 500-yard freestyle (4:52.04), while senior
Leah Riley placed fourth in the B-final of the event (5:06.25).
The combination of Tyler, Clabeaux, Murtaugh and Nalls took the top spot in the 400-yard medley relay (3:40.32).
The Patriots went two-three in the 50-yard freestyle, with Judge second (23.40) and Brehmer third (23.44). Freshman
Ally Yeary was seventh in the C-Final of the event (24.84).
On the men's side, Florida Atlantic leads with 320 points, followed by Towson (250), George Mason (189), American (114) and Marist (114).

Joshua Hochard placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:20.82).
In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman
Tate Anderson took third (4:31.83). In the consolation final of the event, freshman
Max Fermayer was second (4:36.28) and sophomore
Joe Durocher third (4:36.88).
In the B-Final, freshman
Matt Quackenbush was sixth (4:39.24) and in the C-Final, junior
Graham Boyle finished first (4:41.18).
Sophomore
Zane Roberts placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (20.37), with classmate
Alexander Franklin sixth (20.66). In the B-Final, senior
Josh Fletcher touched the wall second (20.84) and junior
Jackson Brookover was fourth (21.02). In the C-Final, sophomore
Logan Skiles placed fourth (21.30).
In the B-Final of the 200-yard IM, senior
Sammy Lucht was seventh (1:54.65). In the C-Final of the event, senior
Thomas Chapman placed first (1:53.54) and sophomore
Tyler Lentine was second (1:54.58).
In the 400-yard medley relay, the team of Anderson, Lentine, Franklin and Roberts placed third (3:17.84).
The second day of competition is Friday, with the prelims scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., diving at 12:30 p.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
