FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team will look to get back on track this week when it opens a three-game homestand beginning with Charleston Southern on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m.
The Patriots are coming off a two-game trip to Pittsburgh where they fell to Robert Morris, 53-52, and University of Pittsburgh, 63-45. Senior
Sonia Smith led the Patriots during the trip, averaging 12.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steal per game over the two-game stretch.
The Buccaneers are also coming off of a 0-2 weekend, dropping games to Duke (111-50) and Georgia Southern (96-65). CSU won their first game of the season, picking up an 81-46 victory over Georgia College.
The two programs met for the first time in program history exactly one year ago in Charleston, S.C. Mason was victorious, leaving with a 64-55 victory that included double-digit scoring performances by four different Patriots. Then junior

Taylor Jameson combined for 21 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals.

- Senior Nalani Kaysia also had a breakout game on Saturday, and was just one point off of her first career double-double, tallying nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds. She leads Mason with 24 total rebounds and four blocks.
- Jameson is currently leading the Mason offense, averaging 10.7 points per game, including scoring 15 points in her first two games of the season against Maryland and Robert Morris. She has also tallied a team-best five steals.
- Sophomore Paula Suárez paces the Mason offense and has posted eight assists so far this season to go along with 5.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
So far this season, the Buccaneers are 1-2, losing their last two games after defeating Georgia College in dominating fashion, 81-46, to begin the season on Nov. 7. CSU then traveled to Duke and hosted Georgia Southern, giving up 111 points and 96 points, respectively.
Three players are averaging double-digit scoring, Sha'Mya Leigh (13.7), Kennedi Jackson (11.3) and Catherine Alben (10.3). Alben is also a top defender for the Buccaneers, leading the team in rebounding (6.7/game) and steals (1.3/game) while Leigh has paced the offense by dishing out a team best 2.3 assists/game.
Senior Sha'Mya Leigh most recently posted 20 points, five assists and three rebounds in 40 minutes of work on Sunday against Georgia Southern, marking the first time in her career that she has registered a 20-point performance.
