FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host the Patriot Invitational, welcoming five teams for the meet beginning Thursday, Nov. 17 and running through Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
 
The Patriots will compete against American, Florida Atlantic, Marist, Richmond and Towson.
 
Mason seniors Lauren Ashton, Haley Butcher, Thomas Chapman, Jacquee Clabeaux, Josh Fletcher, Jackson Knouse, Emily Lewantowicz, Sammy Lucht, Megan Mastropaolo, Madison Nalls, Leah Riley and Walter Turlington will be recognized on Senior Day prior to the finals on Saturday.
 
In the 2021 Patriot Invitational, the Mason women's team placed fifth out of seven teams and the men's team placed fifth out of six teams in the event.
 
On the women's side, Delaware won the meet with 814 points, Florida Atlantic was second with 709 points and Drexel finished third with 677 points.  Seton Hall was fourth (528), followed by George Mason (514.5), Richmond (305.5) and American (297).
 
On the men's side, Florida Atlantic won the meet with 924 points, Delaware was second with 771 points and Seton Hall finished third with 605.5 points.  Drexel was fourth (604.5), followed by George Mason (569) and American (270).
 
On the women's side last year, Ali Tyler set a new meet record in the 400-yard IM by more than two seconds, winning the event with a time of 4:13.02.
 
Tyler also won the 200-yard backstroke with a NCAA B qualifying time (1:56.33) and placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.65), just four-tenths of a second behind the winner.
 
Jacquee Clabeaux won the 200-yard breaststroke for the third straight year with a NCAA B qualifying time (2:13.02).  She took the top spot in the 200-yard IM (2:01.32) and finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (55.44).
 
Abigail Murtuagh made the podium with a third-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.76).
 
The Patriots set two meet records and three program records in the relay events.
 
The team of Emma DeJong, Shannon Judge, Clabeaux and Tyler set a new meet record with a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 3:20.84.  It was the second straight time that Mason established a new meet record in the event.
 
In the 400-yard medley relay, the combination of Clabeaux, DeJong, Murtaugh and Tyler took the top spot with a program-record time of 3:40.69.  Swimming first in the event, Tyler also set a school record with a time of 54.27.
 
Mason also set a program record in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Clabeaux, DeJong, Judge and Tyler placing second in the event (1:31.96).
 
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Laura Hodge, Clabeaux, DeJong and Tyler won the event and recorded a new meet record (7:24.76), besting the previous mark set in 2019 by over five seconds.
 
On the men's side at last year's Patriot Invitational, Zane Roberts made the podium with a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (45.80), while Anthony Nguyen placed sixth (45.89).
 
Nguyen was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.80) and seventh in the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.84).
 
Jared Bergan was sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:50.42) and 12th in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:32.89).
 
Thomas Chapman placed sixth in the 400-yard IM (4:03.50).
 
The team of Alexander Franklin, Will Rastatter, Nguyen and Roberts touched the wall second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:21.87).  In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the same group placed third (3:01.32).
 
The combination of Sorab Aman, Sammy Lucht, Franklin and Rastatter placed third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:29.74).
 
Franklin and Rastatter finished in a tie for fourth place in the 50-yard freestyle (20.77).
 
Ian Castegnaro placed fourth in the finals of the three-meter diving event with a score of 253.60.
