FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason wraps up a two-game homestand with a Sunday matinee vs. American inside EagleBank Arena.
Tip-off between the Patriots and Eagles is set for 4 p.m. Sunday's contest will be broadcast on ESPN+, featuring commentary from Bill Rohland. In addition, Steve Kolbe will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with streaming coverage commencing at 3:45 p.m.
PATRIOT POINTS
• The Patriots opened their home slate with an 83-69 win over Longwood Friday night. Mason is now 11-4 (.733) in Fairfax under head coach
Kim English.
• Mason held the Lancers to just 3-of-13 (.231) shooting from 3pt range in the win. Through two games, the Patriots rank 22nd nationally in 3pt FG defense (.184).
• Senior
Josh Oduro led Mason against Longwood with his 10th career double-double. He notched 20 points on just seven shots and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
• Oduro was named to the Preseason All-Atlantic 10 First Team after garnering postseason first team accolades in 2021-22. He led the A-10 in scoring (17.7 ppg) and ranked third in field goal percentage (.529). He is averaging 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds through two games this season.

Victor Bailey Jr. added 13 points, three assists and made 3-of-7 3pt attempts. He leads Mason with 14.0 shots/game this season.

Davonte Gaines added 11 points and six rebounds in 25 minutes on Friday.
• After committing 19 turnovers and being outrebounded by nine in the opener at #15 Auburn, Mason tallied an improved 11 turnovers against Longwood and held a +6 rebounding margin.

Mason is 72-33 (.686) all time against teams currently in the Patriot League. The Patriots' most common opponents are American (33-11), Navy (17-9) and Loyola (8-6). The Green & Gold are 7-4 against Bucknell. Mason went 2-0 against the league last season, with triumphs over Navy (71-65) and American (67-44).

Sunday's game will be Mason's 129th against a Washington, D.C. college. The Patriots are 71-57 (.555) overall and 49-38 (.563) against Div. I, D.C. schools. The Patriots' most common opponents are American (33-11), GW (9-22), UDC (6-12), Gallaudet (11-4) and Howard (7-4). Mason has played Georgetown just once, with the Hoyas earning a 75-63 victory in EagleBank Arena on Dec. 3, 1985. In addition to Sunday's game vs. American, the Patriots also will play GW twice this season in the annual Revolutionary Rivalry and could potentially face Howard as part of the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
HISTORY vs. AMERICAN
Sunday's game marks the 45th all-time meeting between Mason and American in men's basketball. The Patriots lead the series, 33-11, and are 19-4 at home, 11-7 at AU and 3-0 on neutral courts against the Eagles. Mason has won 15 of the last 16 in the series. The two foes battled as members of the CAA from 1985-2000. The Patriots swept the Eagles during Mason's 1998-99 NCAA Tournament season, including a 73-48 win in the CAA Tournament. The two teams have played seven times in non-conference play since 2000, including a 75-35 win at the BB&T Classic during the 2006 Final Four season (12/5/05). Most recently, Mason won 67-44 last season on Dec. 21 in Fairfax.
DeVon Cooper led the Patriots with a game-high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting and converted five 3-pointers on just seven attempts (.714).
A LOOK AT THE EAGLES (0-1, 0-0 PATRIOT LEAGUE; KenPom #301)
American was picked to finish seventh out of 10 teams in the Patriot League preseason poll. The Eagles return four of their top-5 scorers from last season's roster, led by Colin Smalls (10.7 ppg in 2021-22). The Eagles dropped a 73-69 contest at Marist to open the 2022-23 campaign on Nov. 9 in Poughkeepsie. Smalls notched 12 points, two rebounds and two assists in the loss, while freshman Geoff Sprouse led the Eagles with 14 points. Matt Rogers added 12 points and six rebounds.
