PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The George Mason women's basketball team will take the short trip to University of Pittsburgh on Saturday after taking on Robert Morris last night.

Saturday's matchup will be the third meeting between the two programs, with Pitt holding a 2-0 lead in the series. The two team's last meeting was also in Pittsburgh on Nov. 25, 2020, and the Panthers prevailed 72-57. The Patriots and the Panther's previously met for the first time in 1991, with Pitt prevailing at home, 73-68.

Mason will look to spoil what would be a four-year streak in home opening wins for the Panthers, dating back to the 2019-2020 season, including the teams' meeting on Nov. 25, 2020.

PATRIOT POINTS
  • The George Mason women's basketball program is looking for their seventh win all time against an ACC opponent, as they are 6-26 in program history.
  • Junior Taylor Jameson is averaging 15.0 points/game over the first two games of the season. She put up 15 points against both Maryland and Robert Morris and has now tallied double-digit scoring performances 22 times in her career.
  • Graduate transfer Riley Childs made her debut in the green and gold last night against Robert Morris, tallying a team-high eight rebounds, eight points and a block.
  • The Patriots' bench proved vital in the game against Robert Morris, scoring 25 points, highlighted by Childs and sophomore Paula Suarez (9 PTS).
  • In the last meeting between the two teams, Jameson and current seniors Tamia Lawhorne and Jazmyn Doster combined for 15 points and eight rebounds.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Panthers opened up the 2022-23 season on Monday, traveling to common opponent Coppin State and picking up a comfortable 56-41 win after a dominant first half. Pitt got double-digit scoring performances from Channise Lewis (11 PTS) and Dayshanette Harris (10 PTS) with eight players contributing at least two points. Gabby Hutcherson (8 REB) and Liatu King (7 REB) led the Panthers under the net with Hutcherson also contributing four blocks and three steals, both team highs.

Pittsburgh used a hot start, scoring 20 first quarter points to build a 10-point lead after the first quarter. The game opened in back-and-forth fashion until a three-pointer by Lewis pushed Pitt ahead 10-8 and gave them the lead for good. That basket sparked a 13-point run spanning from 5:40 to 8:58 in the first. The second half was much closer, as Pittsburgh outscored Coppin State just 28-26, but the dominant first half was enough to allow the Panthers to cruise to the season-opening victory.

UP NEXT
The Patriots will return to Fairfax for three-game homestand, beginning with Charleston Southern on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Opening tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at EagleBank Arena.
