MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Despite leading for most of the night, the George Mason women's basketball team fell to Robert Morris in the waning seconds of the game, 53-52.
For the second straight game, junior
Taylor Jameson scored a team-high 15 points to go along with four rebounds, an assist and a career-high-matching three steals.
Off the bench, graduate student
Riley Childs made her debut in the green and gold, contributing a team-high eight rebounds, eight points, an assist and a block.
The Patriots (0-2) got off to a hot start, outscoring Robert Morris 19-9 in the first quarter. George Mason rode the momentum into halftime with a four-point lead after shooting 30.4% from the floor with seven makes, all of which were assisted.
The Colonials (2-0) began to chip away after halftime, shooting over 42% from the field and getting 10 points from the charity stripe. With 15 seconds remaining in the game, Robert Morris hit their only three-pointer of the game to tie it up, then causing a turnover a few seconds later and take their first lead since 6:32 remaining in the first on a fast break.
George Mason had a chance to tie it after a Colonials' foul, but only converted on one free throw to provide the final tally.
