FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's soccer team lost to Richmond in Sunday evening's game by the score of 2-1. The Spiders record their first conference win of the season and snap a five-game scoreless drought.

The Patriots started the game with two close chances to score. Junior midfielder
Milan Pierre-Jerome's one-timer from the top of the box 38 seconds into the game hit the right goal post and bounced back into play. Later in the 14
th minute, junior forward
Ashley Shimberg dribbled past the rushing goalkeeper, where her subsequent shot was saved off the line by a Richmond sliding defender.
Mason would finally strike first in the game by way of a
Zoë Vidaurre header, assisted by
Milan Pierre-Jerome assist.

Milan Pierre-Jerome leads the team with four assists. This is the third time these two Patriots have connected to score a goal this season.
The Spiders would level the game before halftime, however, by a goal from freshman midfielder Emma Shields. Later in the second half, the Spiders struck again when sophomore forward Emma Coleman scored off a breakaway.
The Patriots had a close chance to score later in the second half. A shot from inside the box by junior forward
Shea Carroll just sailed over the crossbar. Carroll would have another chance in the last five minutes of play, but her shot would go wide right as well.

- Mason had 54% of the possession while Richmond had 46%.
- Richmond had the advantage in total shots, shots on target and corners.
- Mason's Victoria Coninck recorded four saves compared to Richmond's Taylor Mantague's three.
