FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's volleyball freshman
Gabriella Gelfound tallied her third career double-double on Saturday, but it was not enough as Dayton won its second match of the weekend in straight sets.
Gelfound notched 11 digs and 11 assists throughout the match to go along with five kills, three block assists and two service aces. The 11 digs were a match-high and also achieved by senior
Stephanie Der.
The Flyers (11-9, 5-2) got out to a fast start in set one, amassing a 9-2 lead to force a Mason timeout. Dayton cruised to the 25-16 set one win behind a match-high 15 kills at a .462 efficiency.
With set two tied at 4-4, Dayton scored eight of the next nine points to take a 12-5 lead. Gelfound tallied four kills and two blocks in the stanza, but GMU was unable to regain the advantage.
The Patriots (5-13, 1-6) and Flyers traded points to start set three, and Mason built a 10-7 lead to force a Dayton timeout. After more back-and-forth, the Patriots pulled within one at 22-21 on a Flyers' service error, but a kill and two Mason errors led to the Dayton win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore Olyvia Kennedy notched a team-high eight kills.
- Sophomore Camille Larkin was efficient at the net, tallying four kills on eight attempts for a team-best .500 clip. She also contributed a team-high four blocks.
- Sophomore Damiana Bova-Ford tallied 12 assists and five digs for the Patriots.
