Mason to Host Richmond in Sunday Afternoon Game

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's soccer team (1-8-4) will play their first of a two-game homestand this Sunday, October 9, when they host Richmond (1-8-3). 

Sunday's game will also feature Pups on the Pitch. Fans will be able to bring their dogs to enjoy the game alongside other Patriot canines. There will be free bandanas given to fans who want to gift their pets Mason gear. 

TICKETING INFORMATION  

Tickets are required for the 2022 Women's Soccer season. All Single Game Tickets for regular season home games are $10. Avoid the lines that may come with game-day sales at the front gate – pre-purchase your tickets today and present them on your phone for entry to the match.

LEVELING THE PLAYING FIELD 

For the remainder of Mason's home games, fans can now donate new or slightly used sporting equipment to receive a discount on their tickets. Discounts will only be valid for walk-up sales. 

LAST TIME OUT 

The Patriots are taking the field after a week's rest from traveling on the road the last two games. The Patriots are looking to secure a conference win at home after drawing at St. Bonaventure 1-1 on Thursday, September 29 and falling to #11 Saint Louis 3-0 on Sunday, October 2.  

SCOUTING RICHMOND 

The Spiders have opened A-10 conference play winless and are searching for their first win since August 28, when they won 1-0 over Delaware. Since that win, the Spiders have gone 0-8-2 and have only scored one goal, which was on September 11 in a 3-1 loss to High Point. 

Junior goalkeeper Taylor Montague has started and played every minute of the season. She has recorded three shutout games and has made 60 saves on the season. Senior forward Molly Wierman leads the team with two goals and four total points. 

HISTORY WITH THE SPIDERS 

Mason has matched up with Richmond a total of 14 times, with the first game dating back to the Patriots' inaugural season on October 16, 1982, when the Patriots won 3-0. Mason holds a firm lead in head-to-head matchups against Richmond with a 10-2-2 record. Mason currently has a four-game unbeaten streak against the Spiders that started on October 1, 2017, where the Patriots won 1-0 in overtime

The last time these two teams met was the 2020-21 season, where they played each other twice. The first game was a tie on March 18, 2021, and the Patriots won the second game 2-1 on April 8, 2021.
