FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team will begin their four-match road-swing on Friday, traveling to Davidson to take on the Wildcats in two matches over three days.
 
Davidson holds an all-time recorded of 8-4 over George Mason, and has won the last three meetings. Mason's last win was at home on Nov. 2, 2018 when the Patriots swept the Wildcats, 3-0.
 
The Wildcats (18-7, 12-2) and the Patriots (7-18, 3-11) are both coming off of a weekend split in the DMV. Davidson was victorious over George Washington on Friday night, 3-0, before falling to the Colonials by the same score on Saturday. Similarly, George Mason swept Rhode Island on Friday night, 3-0, before dropping Saturday's match by a score of 3-1.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
  • Sophomore Olyvia Kennedy continues to lead Mason's offense and has now tallied 232 kills this season. Senior Mujay Mambu and freshman Gabriella Gelfound are second and third on the team with 157 and 156 kills, respectively.
  • Gelfound and sophomore Damiana Bova-Ford pace the offense with 408 and 360 assists, respectively.
  • Defensively, senior Stephanie Der leads the Patriots with 353 digs and ranks fourth in the A-10 with 4.36/set. Graduate student Peyton Ehmke has been consistent at the net, and has now tallied 90.0 blocks this season.
  • Junior Katelyn Clarke had a stellar weekend, tallying 23 digs, 17 kills at a .222 clip, five service aces and three blocks against Rhode Island.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Davidson boasts one of the best defenses in the conference, as they rank first in Team Blocks (2.59/set) Opponent Service Aces (1.28/set) and Opponent Hitting Percentage (.161). Individually, Anela Davis leads the Wildcats with 134 total blocks and a conference-best 1.52 blocks/set while Bella Brady is averaging a conference-best 5.19 digs/set. Offensively, three players have tallied over 200 kills so far in 2022: Isabel Decker (255, 3.00/set), Emma Slusser (202, 2.40/set) and Jackie Bardin (201, 2.61/set).
 
UP NEXT
The Patriots will conclude the regular season on the road at Fordham in the Bronx. Match times are set for Friday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m.
