FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team will take the short trip to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to play its' second match of the year against the Colonials at the Charles E. Smith Center.
The last time the two teams met on Oct. 4 in Fairfax, George Washington edged George Mason in a tightly contested five-set match, 3-2. Sophomore
Olyvia Kennedy recorded a career-high 20 kills to lead all players and senior
Mujay Mambu was just behind her, registering 17.
The Patriots are coming off of a 1-1 weekend against Duquesne, taking down the Dukes 3-0 on Friday before falling by the same score on Saturday.
The Colonials dropped two matches to Dayton on the road this past weekend, falling 3-0 on Friday before forcing five sets on Saturday in a 3-2 loss.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kennedy and Mambu lead the Patriots' offense with 203 and 140 kills, respectively.
- Freshman Gabriella Gelfound is just behind Mambu with 137, while also leading the team with 349 assists and 25 service aces.
- Defensively, senior Stephanie Der is averaging 4.24 digs/set (297), ranking 4th in the A-10. At the net, grad student Peyton Ehmke leads the Patriots with 79.0 total blocks, for .98/ set, good for 10th in the conference. Ehmke is also hitting at a .281 this season for 112 kills (9th, A-10).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Liv Womble leads the Colonials with 274 kills so far this season, averaging 3.01/set (tied-6
th, A-10) and is second on the team with 82.0 total blocks. First in that category for George Washington is Tierra Porter, who has a conference-second-best 126.0 in 2022. In the backcourt, Bella Bowman has registered 335 digs. Meanwhile, Grace Allread has dished out 486 assists at the setter position.

Mason will return to Fairfax for the final time this season when it hosts Rhode Island at the RAC. Friday and Saturday's matches will both begin at 5 p.m. Prior to Saturday's match, the team will honor its' 2023 senior class.
