FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team had their best offensive output of the season on Friday, hitting at a season-best .371 clip with just 11 errors, one off their season-low.
Senior
Mujay Mambu once again led the Patriots with a match-high 12 kills. Meanwhile freshman
Gabriella Gelfound was just short of her third career double-double, accumulating 18 assists and nine kills at a career-high .500 efficiency. She also tallied six digs, two block assists and two service aces.
The Patriots (6-15, 2-8) got out to a fast start, quickly jumping out to a 10-5 lead to force a Duquesne timeout. Down the stretch, Duquesne was unable to string together more than two points at a time, and a service ace junior
Ewelina Gacek gave Mason a 12-point lead to cruise to 25-13 win.
The Dukes (4-18, 1-9) got out to the same hot start in set two, forcing a George Mason timeout as they trailed 10-5. The Patriots tied the set at 12, and the teams went back and forth and were once again tied at 18 until back-to-back kills from Gelfound and sophomore
Olyvia Kennedy gave them a two-point cushion. After a Duquesne timeout, back-to-back block assists and a kill from graduate student
Peyton Ehmke gave Mason the 25-19 win.
It was all Mason in set three as the team amassed a 10-3 lead and never trailed. Mambu and Gelfound led the way with five kills a-piece and the Patriots cruised to a 25-18 win and the match sweep.
