Patriots Surrender Late Goal, Fall to Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. – The George Mason men's soccer team dropped its Atlantic 10 road match to Rhode Island, 2-1, on Saturday night at the URI Soccer Complex in Kingston, R.I.

Mason (2-9-1, 1-4-1 A-10) fell behind Rhode Island (6-1-5, 2-1-2 A-10) in the 13th minute of play.  Senior forward Patrick Agyemang netted his team-leading sixth goal of the season to put the Rams in front, 1-0.

In the 18th minute, Mason junior forward Ishmail Kamara scored the equalizer, gathering a loose ball and scoring his first goal of the season to make it a 1-1 game.

The match remained tied until the final minute.

With just 45 seconds remaining in the match, Rhode Island sophomore midfielder Ivan Montoro scored the game-winning goal to lift the Rams to a 2-1 victory.

Mason senior goalkeeper Jake Langley (2-9-1, 1-4-1 A-10) made three saves, while Rhode Island freshman goalkeeper Max Hinke also made three saves in the match.

HOW THEY SCORED

13' | Agyemang scored his sixth goal of the season with a low shot from the right side.
18' | Kamara gathered a loose ball and scored his first goal of the season.
90' | Montoro scored the game winning goal from inside the box.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The Rams outshot the Patriots, 14-5, including a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.  Rhode Island finished with eight corner kicks, while Mason had three corner kicks in the match.

Graduate student forward Ariel Aguas, senior defender Jonathan Fawole, sophomore defender Joshua Morrobel, sophomore defender Ahmed Mohamed and freshman forward Nicholas Prioli each played 90 minutes.

Sophomore forward Balint Kocso, Kamara, Morrobel and Mohamed each registered one shot on goal for Mason.

The Patriots were called for 24 fouls and the Rams were called for nine fouls.

NEXT FOR MASON

The Patriots return home to face UNC Wilmington on Tuesday, Oct. 18 with the opening kick scheduled for 4 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
