Katelyn Clarke, the George Mason women's volleyball team fell to Loyola Chicago in three sets on Friday night.
Clarke was Mason's biggest contributor on the night, registering 12.5 points on her 11 kills, one ace and one block assist. The junior only committed three errors to hit at a .333 efficency.
Set one was a battle from both sides, with 16 tie scores and five lead changes. With the set tied at 21, three attack errors and a kill by the Ramblers (14-7, 8-0) gave the team the 25-23 win.
The Patriots (5-14, 1-7) jumped out to a 7-2 lead in set two after a Mason block and two aces by freshman
Gabriella Gelfound to force a Rambler timeout. Loyola Chicago then used a 10-3 run to take their first lead of the set and force a Mason timeout. Despite tying the set at 17 after a Mambu kill, the Patriots were unable to regain the lead.
The Ramblers hit at a highly efficient .444 in set three, committing just two errors and putting down 14 kills. Mambu recorded a set high four kills, but six errors and four service errors were too much for the Patriots to overcome and Loyola took the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Gabriella Gelfound recorded a career-high five service aces to go along with 17 assists, four digs, three kills and one block assist.
- Sophomore Camille Larkin led Mason at the net defensively with one solo block and two block assists. She also put down three kills on eight attempts at a .375 clip.
- Senior Stephanie Der led the Patriots with eight digs.
