FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team is back on the road this weekend, traveling to Loyola Chicago for just the second match-up between the two teams in program history.
Loyola and George Mason are meeting up for the first time in over 25 years when the Patriots claimed a 3-0 win on November 10, 1996.
The Ramblers sit atop the A-10 with an unblemished record at 7-0 during their debut season in the conference. Loyola Chicago is coming off of two wins over Duquesne last weekend, dropping just one set in two matches in Pittsburgh.
Mason is coming off of two tough losses to reigning A-10 champion Dayton in the RAC this past weekend and now sit in eighth place with a 1-6 conference record.
PATRIOT POINTS
- Sophomore Olyvia Kennedy is coming off of a stellar week of hitting, amassing 31 kills over three matches for 3.1 kills/set. She led the Patriots in two out three matches, including a career-high 20 against George Washington on Oct. 4. She leads Mason with 176 kills.
- Freshman Gabriella Gelfound leads the Patriots with 282 assists and 17 service aces and is second on the team with 132 digs. She tallied her third double-double of her rookie season on Saturday with 11 assists and 11 digs.
- Defensively, senior Stephanie Der continues to shine in the backcourt, tallying a team-high 238 digs so far. Graduate student Peyton Ehmke has notched a team-leading 65.0 blocks, including seven on Friday.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Offensively, four Ramblers have tallied over 100 kills and are led by Emily Banitt, who owns 187 so far this season. Bree Borum leads the team and the conference with 631 assists for 8.19 per set. Meanwhile, on the defensive end, Banitt and Taylor Venuto have both notched 58.0 total blocks so far this season. Grace Hinchman leads Loyola Chicago with 307 digs, good for fifth-best in the A-10.
