ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The George Mason women's volleyball team was defeated by Saint Louis this afternoon, as the Billikens won in straight-sets for the second time.
Sophomore
Olyvia Kennedy led the Patriots (5-10, 1-3) offensively with eight kills while freshman
Gabriella Gelfound filled the stat sheet with a team-high 13 assists with six digs, five kills and two block assists.
Set one was close throughout, including when Mason pulled within two, 18-16, on an attack error by the Billikens (12-4, 4-0). However, four straight points would put SLU out of reach and it took set one.
The Patriots and Billikens battled in the second set, with 11 tie scores and eight lead changes and the teams were just about even on hitting, (.179-.167). Mason led 14-13 after a Kennedy kill, but four kills by the Billikens gave them a 17-15 lead that they would not give up.
SLU jumped out to an early 9-3 lead in set three, and the Patriots were unable to catch up, tallying just six kills.
