Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team picked up its first conference win of the season on Saturday inside EagleBank Arena, defeating Revolutionary Rival George Washington 52-46.

Three Patriots finished in double figures behind junior Jazmyn Doster's sixth career double-double (13 points/11 rebounds).

Sophomore Taylor Jameson (11) and senior Amaya Scott (10) also recorded double-digit scoring performances. The Patriots shot 39.6 percent from the floor and made five three-pointers.

The Patriot defense shined, holding the Colonials to 30.5 percent from the field (18-59) and just 16.7 percent from behind the arc (3-18).

George Washington scored the first three points of the game before Mason rattled off seven straight to lead at the media timeout (7-3). A strong defensive effort from Mason held GW to just one field goal in the quarter (.111). It marked the lowest point total allowed in a quarter by the Patriots this season. Offensively, Mason shot 42.9 percent from the field (6-14) as six players scored in the opening stanza for a 16-5 lead.

Mason continued to build onto its lead in the second quarter, owning a 17-point lead with 4:53 to go (26-9). GW closed out the half on a 6-0 run as Mason led by 13 at the break (28-15).

George Washington brought a full-court press out of the break to storm back in the third quarter, outscoring the Patriots 21-10 in the frame. The Colonials finished the quarter on a 14-1 run to cut Mason's lead to two, 38-36.

After GW tied the game with 7:27 remaining (38-38), the Patriots went on a 10-2 run, highlighted by six points from Doster. Mason closed out the game strong defensively, only allowing eight points in the final quarter.

Up next, Mason will hit the road for three consecutive away matchups: Davidson (Feb. 2), Dayton (Feb. 5) and UMass (Feb. 11).
