FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's volleyball team (3-2) won in four sets (25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 26-24) against North Greenville (2-2) on Friday night inside the RAC.
In a game that was back-and-forth for a majority of match, the Green & Gold were able to string along some impressive scoring runs late to come away with a victory in the last two sets of the match.
"It wasn't pretty volleyball by us, and kudos to NGU, they are a very good team and well coached," stated Head Coach
Jay Hosack. "We missed 25 serves and had 20 undirected errors in that match. Starting down 0-11 basically is very tough to come back from. I'm proud that we gutted out that win, but we can and will have to make it easier for ourselves in future matches."
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore Omar Hoyos led the Patriots on Saturday as the outside hitter recorded team highs in kills (21), service aces (3), and digs (11).
- Redshirt sophomore Jack Bolz helped lead the Patriots with 16 kills, one service ace, and a team high 11 digs.
- Redshirt junior Zach Talamoa set a team high of 26 assists.
- Sophomore Sam Peters made his first appearance in the Green & Gold this season.
- The middle block earned one service ace in the match.
- Freshman setter Troy McDonald tallied 17 assists in the win.
- Mason outhit North Greenville, 27.8 percent to the Crusaders' 23 percent.
- Both teams earned 59 kills each in the match.
- Mason tallied 49 digs to North Greenville's 38.
- North Greenville recorded one service ace to Mason's five.

Mason will travel to Saint Francis on Friday, Feb. 4 and Penn State on Saturday Feb. 5 with first serve for both matches slated for 7 p.m. ET.
