FAIRFAX, Va. — The George Mason women's basketball team welcomes George Washington to EagleBank Arena on Saturday for its National Girls & Women in Sports Day game. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Fairfax.
Saturday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+ with commentary by Steve Kolbe and Bill Rohland. In addition, Brian McSweeney will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 2:50 p.m.
PATRIOT POINTS
* Saturday's game will serve as Mason's annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day game. In addition, Mason women's basketball will kick off the athletic department's year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX.
* A 25-5 run over a seven-minute stretch allowed Duquesne to pull away late against Mason on Wednesday evening, 67-55. The Patriots committed 18 turnovers which turned into 23 points for the Dukes.
* Sophomore Taylor Jameson has posted four double-digit performances in the last five games, including a team-high 16 points against Duquesne on Wednesday. She's averaging 12.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists over that stretch.
* Senior Amaya Scott scored a career-high 35 points against St. Bonaventure to go along with a career-high 13 rebounds for her 13th career double-double. Her 35 points are the second-most points scored in the Atlantic 10 and 28th-most points scored in the country this season.
* Scott went 15-of-20 from the free throw line vs. the Bonnies. It marked the most free throws made in the A-10 in a game and are tied for fifth-most made in the nation.
* Mason's point guard duo of Jameson and Jayla Adams have stepped up over the last three games. Jameson is averaging 12.3 points and 4.0 assists while Adams is averaging 10.0 points and 3.0 assists.
* Adams has led the team in assists in 12 games this season. She is currently averaging 3.5 assists per game – good for seventh in the A-10.
* Mason ranks 43rd in the nation in free throws made, going 254-of-349 from the line this season (.728). The Patriots have shot 70.0 percent or better from the line in 13 games. Mason is 65-of-82 from the charity stripe over the last four games (.793).
* Scott ranks 47th nationally in points per game (18.2) – good for second in the Atlantic 10. She also ranks 35th nationally in field goals made (125) and 33rd in free throws made (76).
* Scott is averaging 20.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting 46.0 percent the floor in conference play. In league action, she's made the most free throws (30) and field goals (46).
* Wakefield ranks 61st nationally in free throw percentage (.833) – going 50-of-60 from the line (min 2.5 per game). She ranks 21st in the A-10 in scoring (11.9) and 23rd in rebounding (5.5).
* Jameson sits fifth in the A-10 in free throw percentage (.841), sinking 39-of-46 attempts.
* Scott has scored in double figures in all but one game this season. She's led the team in scoring 12 times and in rebounding eight times.
SERIES HISTORY
George Washington has won four straight to lead the all-time series, 28-13. The two teams met three times in 2020-21, including a matchup in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championships where GW defeated Mason 62-56 on March 10.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS (7-11, 0-5 A-10; NET 241)
George Washington enters Saturday's contest on a five-game losing streak. GW is ranked fourth in the A-10 in steals per game, averaging 7.65, while Sheslanie Laureano, who leads GW with 22 steals this season, is ranked ninth in the A-10 in steals per game (1.7). The Colonials give up only 57.3 points per game, the fourth best in the A-10.
