Pittsburgh, Pa. — The George Mason women's basketball team (6-12, 0-6) suffered a 67-55 loss to Duquesne (8-11, 3-4) on Wednesday night at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mason was held to just seven shots in the fourth quarter as the Dukes outscored the Patriots 20-9 in the final 10 minutes.
Eight Patriots got on the board in Wednesday's contest with five scoring five-plus points. Sophomore Taylor Jameson led the Patriots with 16 points and a career-high eight rebounds. It marked her fourth double-digit scoring performance in the last five games.
Senior Amaya Scott was the second Patriot to finish in double figures with 10 points (4-4 FT). She's scored in double figures in all but one game this season.
Junior Jazmyn Doster added nine points and eight rebounds while freshman Paula Suarez finished with a personal-best in points (8).
It was all Jameson to start the game for the Patriots. She went 3-of-3 from the floor in the first quarter, including a pair of three-pointers. Mason trailed by three after the first 10 minutes of play (15-12).
Mason pulled within one after five straight points (20-19), but Duquesne responded with a 7-0 run over 1:15 to lead at the second quarter media timeout (27-19). The two teams then traded baskets as Mason trailed by eight at the break (37-29).
Mason opened the second half on a 9-2 scoring run, highlighted by five points from Doster. At the media timeout, Mason was down by two (40-38). Five straight free throws gave Mason its first lead, 43-42. Duquesne hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to hold a one-point advantage with one quarter remaining (47-46).
A slow start to the fourth quarter hurt the Patriots as Duquesne pushed its lead to seven with 7:23 to go (53-46). In total, the Dukes went on a 25-5 run over 6:46 minutes to put the game out of reach. Duquesne went on to claim the 67-55 victory.
