FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's basketball senior
Amaya Scott scored a career-high 35 points but it wasn't enough as St. Bonaventure (9-8, 1-5 A-10) defeated Mason (6-11, 0-5 A-10), 81-74, on Sunday afternoon inside EagleBank Arena.
Scott scored 35 points, shooting just under 50.0 percent from the field (10-21) and hitting a career-high 15 free throws (15-20 FT). She shattered her previous career-high of 28 points, previously set against Fordham on Jan. 12. She also pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds for her 13th career double-double.
Guard
Jayla Adams added a career-high 14 points, notching double-figure scoring for the fourth time in the last seven games. Guard
Taylor Jameson tied a career-high with six assists and added 11 points.
Senior
Livija Kaktaite provided a lift off Mason's bench, finishing with a career-high seven points and two three-pointers.
St. Bonaventure held a 18-11 lead after the first quarter thanks to 12-2 run. The Patriots' offense got on a roll midway through the second quarter after trailing by 12 points with 6:38 remaining (25-13). The Patriots outscored St. Bonaventure 16-8, including a 10-3 run in the final 2:47 of the half, to trail by four points at the break, 33-29.
Mason's momentum continued early into the second half as the Patriots started the third quarter on a 10-1 run led by back-to-back three-pointers by
Jameson and
Kaktaite. St. Bonaventure responded with a 21-6 run to own a 10-point lead, 55-45, going into the final quarter.
The Bonnies pushed their lead to 14 with 7:37 remaining (64-50), before Mason went on a 6-0 run (64-56). Mason cut its deficit to six on two occasions with under three minutes remaining, but would not get any closer, falling 81-74.
The Patriots travel to Pittsburgh for a Wednesday tilt against Duquesne at 7 p.m.
