Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. – After leading for a majority of the game, George Mason (6-10, 0-4) was outscored 21-9 in the fourth quarter as La Salle (10-6, 3-1) defeated the Patriots, 63-53, in an Atlantic 10 conference game inside EagleBank Arena tonight.
The Patriots had balanced scoring with four players in double figures led by forward
Amaya Scott with 14 points.
Jayla Adams and
Jordan Wakefield each dropped 12 points and
Taylor Jameson added 10 points. Wakefield grabbed nine rebounds and Adams recorded six assists for Mason.
The teams traded baskets in a first half that saw six lead changes and seven ties. The Patriots made a 6-0 run with 3:15 left in the half to grab its largest lead, 32-26. After an Explorer basket with under a minute, the Patriots went into the break up 32-28. Jameson scored 10 points, including two three-pointers (2-3), hitting on half her shots (4-8) in the first half. Adams dished out five of her six assists in the first two quarters.
The third quarter saw much of the same with the Patriots and Explorers trading baskets. Mason took a 44-42 lead heading into the final stanza.
To begin the fourth quarter, the teams exchange small runs with La Salle jumping out to a 47-44 lead with five straight points. The Patriots responded with a 7-0 run to lead 51-47 with just over five minutes to play. Mason's shooting went cold in the final five minutes of the game, and La Salle finished the game with a 13-0 run.
The Patriots are back on its home court this Sunday against St. Bonaventure at noon. The game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.
