FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The George Mason men's volleyball team (2-1) won in five sets (18-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 16-14) against Purdue Fort Wayne (2-2) on Thursday night inside Gates Sports Center.
In a game that was back-and-forth for a majority of match, the Green & Gold were able to string along some impressive scoring runs late to come away with a victory in the last three sets of the match.
"I am proud of our team to fight for a reverse sweep," head coach
Jay Hosack said. " I am even more proud of the way we were determined not to make the same mistakes we did last week. We are still learning how to win, but tonight we made good strides forward."
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Redshirt sophomore Jack Bolz led the Patriots on Thursday as the opposite recorded team highs and career highs in kills (21) and service aces (3).
- Sophomore Omar Hoyos helped lead the Patriots with 15 kills and a match high 13 digs.
- Redshirt junior Zach Talamoa set another season high with 44 assists.
- Redshirt sophomore Chey Cooper and sophomore Jason Ashenfelter made their first appearance for the Patriots this season.
- Outside hitter Chey Cooper tallied one of Mason's four service aces.
- Senior Trevor Kennan recorded 12 digs and six assists in the win.
- Purdue Fort Wayne outhit Mason, 30.4 percent to the Patriots' 27.9 percent.
- Both teams earned 59 kills each in the match.
- Mason tallied 47 digs to Purdue Fort Wayne's 42.
- Purdue Fort Wayne recorded three service aces to Mason's four.
- Graduate student Brady Rosen made his first appearance for the Green & Gold.
