Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason (6-9, 0-3) couldn't overcome a red-hot first quarter by Richmond (12-6, 3-2) as the Spiders defeated the Patriots, 78-64, in an Atlantic 10 conference game inside EagleBank Arena tonight.

Amaya Scott scored a game-high 24 points, her fifth time with 20+ points this season. The A-10's second-leading scorer shot 60 percent (9-15) from the field and finished with five rebounds and three steals. Junior
Jordan Wakefield added 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Patriots scored the first basket of the contest, but Richmond responded with 11 straight points en route to 28 first quarter points, the most points given up by the Patriots in the first quarter this season. Richmond shot a blazing 57.9 percent (11-of-19), including 4-of-10 from three-point range.
The Patriots responded in the second quarter with a strong defensive effort, forcing the Spiders into seven turnovers. Mason would go on a 14-5 run in a six-minute stretch behind seven points from Scott and a three-pointer by Wakefield. The Patriots cut the Spiders' lead to five points, 33-28, with three and half minutes left in the half.
Richmond's next three baskets were three-pointers as the Spiders extended the lead to 11 points and a 43-32 halftime lead. The second half was played more evenly with Richmond outscoring Mason, 35-32.
The Patriots are back in action against La Salle this Friday in a game that was originally scheduled on Jan. 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside EagleBank Arena.
