FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason renews its Revolutionary Rivalry with George Washington as part of a Martin Luther King Jr. Day tripleheader on CBS Sports Network.
Tip-off between the Patriots and Colonials is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside the Smith Center. The CBS Sports Network broadcast will feature commentary from Chick Hernandez (play-by-play), Pete Gillen (color) and Sherree Burruss (sideline). In addition, Bill Rohland will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 1:45 p.m.

• Monday's game is Mason's first in 16 days after the Patriots paused as a program due to COVID-19 health & safety protocols.
• Mason last played Jan. 1, when the Patriots wrapped up non-conference play with a 76-67 setback at sixth-ranked Kansas. The Patriots trailed by just five with four minutes to play in that contest inside historic Phog Allen Fieldhouse.

Davonte Gaines led the Patriots with his fourth double-double of the season. His exceptional performance included 15 points and a career-best 12 rebounds. He made 5-of-8 field goal attempts and 3-of-6 triples in the contest.
• Graduate student
D'Shawn Schwartz added 15 points in Lawrence and dished out a career-best five assists. In three games against Power 5 competition this season, Schwartz averaged 20 points and shot 52.5 percent from the floor.

DeVon Cooper added 11 points and made 3-of-6 3-point field goals. He's shooting 55.6 percent (10-18) from 3pt range over the past three games.
• Junior point guard
Xavier Johnson has tallied a 2.8 assist/turnover ratio (17 a, 6 to) over the past three games. He notched 11 points (6-8 FT) and grabbed five rebounds at Kansas.
• The Patriots are 3-5 all time in A-10 openers but have won two of their past three.
• After Monday's contest, three of Mason's next four A-10 games will be played at home.
• Schwartz is just 11 3-pointers away from 200 for his career. He would become just the sixth player who's worn a Mason uniform to reach the 200-triple milestone.

Monday's game marks the 30th all-time meeting in the Revolutionary Rivalry. George Mason and George Washington are separated by just 20 miles and are situated on the same DC Metro line (Orange). Mason has won six of the past eight matchups between the schools. Overall, GW holds a 21-8 advantage in the series and is 11-6 in A-10 games against the Patriots. The teams most recently met in the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship, when the Patriots prevailed 73-59 on March 4 inside Richmond's Robins Center. Then-freshman

Monday's game will be Mason's 127th against a Washington, D.C. college. The Patriots are 70-56 (.556) overall and 48-37 (.565) against Div. I, D.C. schools. The Patriots' most common opponents are American (33-11), GW (8-21), UDC (6-12), Gallaudet (11-4) and Howard (7-4). Mason has played Georgetown just once, with the Hoyas earning a 75-63 victory in EagleBank Arena on Dec. 3, 1985. The Patriots opened their 2021-22 slate against D.C. foes on Dec. 21 with a 67-44 triumph over American in Fairfax.
A LOOK AT THE COLONIALS (4-10, 0-2 A-10; KenPom 280, NET 296)
GW was picked to finish 13th out of 14 teams in the 2021-22 A-10 preseason poll. The Colonials tallied a 4-8 mark in non-conference play and have opened their A-10 slate with losses to Dayton (83-58) and at VCU (84-57). GW's struggles have come on the offensive end, where the team is averaging 0.955 points/possession (319th nationally) and shooting 29.5 percent from 3-point range. James Bishop leads the team in scoring (15.6 ppg), while Joe Bamasile chips in 13.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Ricky Lindo Jr. grabs a team-best 8.1 rebounds/contest and adds 8.6 points/game.
