FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's basketball hits the road for the first time in Atlantic 10 play, taking on Rhode Island on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside the Ryan Center in Kingston, R.I.
Saturday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+. In addition, Brian McSweeney will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 12:50 p.m.
PATRIOT POINTS
* Mason (6-7, 0-1 A-10) dropped its Atlantic 10 opener to Fordham, 73-64, on Wednesday in Fairfax. The Patriots were coming off a 23-day break due to COVID-19 protocols that cost them four games.
* The Patriots' first three A-10 matchups – UMass, La Salle and Saint Joseph's – were postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.
* Head coach
Vanessa Blair-Lewis will remain in COVID-19 protocols and miss Saturday's game against Rhode Island. Associate head coach
Chandler McCabe will serve as acting head coach vs. the Rams.
* For four games during the 2017-18 season at Bethune-Cookman, McCabe handled head coaching duties with Blair-Lewis on maternity leave. The Wildcats won three of those four games, including an overtime win at Morgan State and a quarterfinal victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore at the MEAC Tournament.

Amaya Scott reached the 1,000-point milestone for her career Wednesday night vs. Fordham. The transfer forward scored 771 of those points during her time at Bethune-Cookman and 232 points as a Patriot.
* Scott finished with a career-high 28 points against the Rams. It marked her fourth 20+ game for the Patriots and third in the last five games. She made 12-of-27 field goals, including her first career three-pointer.
* Scott added a team-high eight rebounds vs. the Rams. She's averaging 21.6 points and 7.4 rebounds over the last five games while shooting 45.1 percent from the field.
* Redshirt sophomore
Jayla Adams made her first career start in the Green & Gold on Wednesday. She finished with career highs in points (11) and field goals (5).
* Junior
Jordan Wakefield added 11 points in Wednesday's setback. She has scored in double figures in all but two games this season. She's averaging 15.4 points over the last five games.
* Sophomore
Taylor Jameson dished out a career-high six assists against JMU. She's averaging 2.4 assists and 7.5 points per game for the Patriots.
* Mason ranks 79th in the nation in free throws made, going 186-258 from the line this season (.721). The Patriots have shot 70.0 percent or better from the line in nine of their 13 games.
* Scott ranks 61st nationally in points per game (17.8) – good for second in the Atlantic 10. She also ranks 60th nationally in field goals made (91), 89th in free throws made (49) and 37th in minutes per game (35.7).
* In the A-10, Scott sits seventh in rebounding (7.5) and 10th in field goal percentage (.472). She's led the team in scoring nine times and in rebounding seven times this season.
* Wakefield ranks 14th in the A-10 in scoring (13.5) and 22nd in rebounding (5.5). She's fifth in the Atlantic 10 and 48th nationally in free throw percentage (.849).
* Adams has led the team in assists in 10 games this season. She currently averaging 3.8 assists per game – good for seventh in the A-10.
SERIES HISTORY
The Rams have won the last two matchups after the Patriots had won the previous four meetings. The all-time series is evened at 4-4 with all seven meetings coming since the Patriots joined the Atlantic 10 in 2013-14. This marks the third consecutive season the two teams will meet in Kingston, R.I.
SCOUTING THE RAMS (11-3, 1-0 A-10; NET 50)
Rhode Island won its Atlantic 10 opener over George Washington, 73-42, to improve to 11-3 overall. The Rams are led by reigning A-10 Co-Player of the Year Emmanuelle Tahane who is averaging nearly a double-double with 14.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. She ranks fifth nationally in offensive rebounds per game (4.6) and 14th in field goal percentage (.588).
As a team, the Rams are sixth in the nation in field goal percentage defense (.338) and 10th in scoring defense (51.7 ppg).
