Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason senior Amaya Scott had a career night but George Mason (6-7, 0-1 A-10) couldn't overcome a big second quarter by the visiting Fordham Rams (10-4, 1-1 A-10), dropping its Atlantic 10 Conference opener, 73-64, inside EagleBank Arena on Wednesday night.

Scott notched her fourth 20+ game for the Patriots and third in the last five games with a career-high 28 points. She made 12-of-27 field goals and was 3-of-4 from the line. In the fourth quarter, Scott scored her 1,000th-career point after a Jayla Adams steal led to a layup and foul.

After trading baskets in the first quarter for a 14-13 Patriot lead, Fordham ran off six straight points and went on a 16-3 run to open the second quarter and take a 38-27 lead at the half. Scott kept the Patriots close with 13 points in the first half.

Fordham extended its lead to 17 points at the end of the third quarter, 57-40. The Patriots picked up the defense behind a full-court press in the fourth quarter that chipped away at the Rams' lead. The Patriots cut the Fordham lead to seven points twice inside a minute remaining in the game but the Rams held on hitting 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch (73-64).

Mason's Adams and Jordan Wakefield scored 11 points each for the Patriots. Atlantic 10 leading scorer junior Anna DeWolfe led the Rams with 22 points.

The Patriots travel to Rhode Island on Saturday for an afternoon tilt at 1 p.m. inside the Ryan Center.
