Patriots Open A-10 Play with a Win

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The George Mason women's soccer team improve to 3-6 and 1-0 in the A-10 after defeating Saint Joseph's (0-7-2, 0-1 in the A-10) by a score of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon inside Sweeney Field.
 
Possession of the ball was split evenly amongst the Patriots and the Hawks. Saint Joseph's tallied one goal on 18 total shots (eight on goal). Mason tallied two goals on five total shots (three on goal).
 
Freshman Serena Spitz scored the first goal of the game for the Patriots off an assist from senior Sara Chontosh. This was Spitz's first career goal. Shannon Lee adds another assist to the season as freshman Hailey Martinez finishes the ball to record the Patriots second goal of the match. This was Martinez's first career goal. Senior Sara Chontosh and junior Grace Hotaling both recorded one shot in the match. Freshman Serena Spitz tallied two shots in the match, both on goal.
