FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason sophomore midfielder
Louis Lehr scored on a penalty kick late in the second half, but the Patriots fell to Old Dominion, 2-1, on Tuesday evening at George Mason Stadium.

Mason (1-3-1) fell behind Old Dominion (2-2-0) early in the first half.Â

In the 11th minute, freshman defender Owen Ruddy scored his first collegiate goal to put the Monarchs in front 1-0. Sophomore midfielder Eli Carr picked up the assist.

Old Dominion extended the advantage in the 40th minute when freshman defender Josh Thacker netted his first career goal with a header to make it a 2-0 game. Freshman midfielder Eliot Goldthorp sent a cross just outside the six to set up the goal.

The two teams played physical in the second half and Carr was given a red card in the 77th minute. A man up, Mason applied the pressure for the remainder of the match.

The Monarchs committed a foul in the penalty area in the 89th minute of play and Lehr scored into the lower right corner to cut the lead to 2-1.
