UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Sophomore midfielder Louis Lehr scored his first collegiate goal to help the George Mason men's soccer team open the season with a 1-1 draw against No. 11 Penn State on Thursday, Aug. 26, at Jeffrey Field in University Park, Pa.

With inclement weather in the area, the match was delayed with 5:06 remaining in regulation.  The game was called final after a mutual decision by the coaching staff of both teams to not resume the game due to lightning.

The Patriots (0-0-1) and Nittany Lions (0-0-1) remained scoreless late in the first half.

Penn State took the lead in the 38th minute when junior forward Liam Butts scored into the lower left side of the net.  Junior defender Alex Stevenson and junior midfielder Andrew Privett picked up the assists.

Lehr netted the equalizer in the 67th minute in his Mason debut.

Freshman midfielder Luciano Covella, also playing in his first NCAA match, played a perfect corner kick into the box, where Lehr elevated and converted with a header just under the crossbar into the upper part of the net.

Mason sophomore goalkeeper Jackson Lee (0-0-1) made six saves, while Penn State sophomore goalkeeper Owen Elliott (0-0-1) made five saves in the match.
