FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's basketball head coach
Kim English has announced that forward Joël Kabimba will join the Patriot roster beginning in 2021-22.
Kabimba joins the Patriots after two seasons at Stetson University, where he averaged 15.9 minutes per game and shot 48.9 percent as a sophomore.
"We are very excited to welcome Joël to our program," English said. "From an evaluation standpoint, Joël's size, strength, athleticism and skill set attracted us to him from the start. Once we began our deeper dive into him as a person, our staff was really drawn to his maturity, commitment to his team and his emphasis on growth."
A native of Kinshasa, D.R. Congo, Kabimba played his high school basketball locally at Middleburg Academy in Loudoun County, where he garnered all-state accolades as a senior.
Kabimba started 32 of his 44 games at Stetson while compiling 235 points, 147 rebounds and 20 blocks. He averaged 5.2 points this past season, including an 8-point, 5-rebound effort against Miami in December.
"We love the fact that Joël has significant Division I basketball experience and has multiple years of eligibility remaining," English said. "He is only scratching the surface of where his game and development as a young man will be when it's all said and done. We are happy to have him as a Patriot."
