Jones to Compete for Australia at U-19 World Cup Beginning Saturday

FAIRFAX, Va. –
George Mason University incoming freshman forward Blake Jones has been named to the Australian U-19 Team which will compete in the FIBA World Cup July 3-11.
 
Jones, who recently led Queensland to the Australian U-20 Gold Medal, will suit up for his home country beginning Saturday in Latvia. The Aussies open competition versus Mali on July 3, take on Turkey July 4 and battle the United States team on July 6 to wrap up group play. All games will be streamed live on YouTube. 
 
In Queensland's run to the U-20 Gold Medal this past May, Jones led the tournament with 9.4 rebounds per game and ranked second in scoring (20.0 ppg) to push his squad to the national crown. He also dished out 3.4 assists per game and shot 49.4 percent from the floor.
 
After being named tournament MVP, Jones became just the second player in Australian history to earn multiple Bob Staunton MVP Awards, joining San Antonio Spurs star Patty Mills in the elite company. Jones also was named MVP of the tournament in 2020.
 
The U-19 World Cup will give Jones an opportunity to compete against some of the USA's best on July 6. The United States roster is composed of six of the top-15 recruits in the Class of 2021, including overall No. 1 Chet Holmgren (Gonzaga).
