Game Recap: Softball |

FAIRFAX, Va. –
The George Mason softball team (18-17, 9-15 A-10) capped off the 2021 season with a walk-off victory over La Salle on Sunday.

In a tightly contested ballgame, the Patriots pushed a run across in the bottom of the eighth to win it in extras.

The contest moved quickly as both pitchers found ways to navigate out of trouble, as each squad combined for just seven hits.

Sophomore Allison Torstensen tallied the Patriots' first hit down the right field line in the third inning.

Junior EJ Bankson would follow with a lead-off triple into dead center field in the bottom of the fourth. Despite the triple, Bankson could not come around to score.

Freshman Sydney Bales got the Patriot bats going in the eighth with a lead-off single. Bales would come around to score the winning run on an infield groundball from sophomore Rachel Warrens.

Senior Haellie Gordon started in the circle for the Green & Gold, throwing 6.1 innings and allowing just four hits and no earned runs. Grad student Bekah Ansbro came in relief, getting 0.2 innings of work.

Freshman Carly Cooper would earn the win for Mason, improving her record to 3-2 to end the year.

TEAM LEADERS
To finish the season, Warrens led Mason in batting average (.299), RBI (19), hits (35), at-bats (117), OPS (.782) and SLG% (.470). The third baseman was also second on the team in homers (3).

Sophomore Annie Villalobos led Mason in home runs (4) while senior Meghan Graham led the Green & Gold in OBP (.360). On the base paths, senior Saige Cisler led the Green & Gold with 11 stolen bases.

In the circle, both Ansbro and Gordon led Mason in innings pitched (97.1). Ansbro led the Patriots in ERA (2.16), strikeouts (103), complete games (6) and saves (4).

Gordon led the Green & Gold in wins (8), appearances (25) and starts (19).
