Patriots Host Colonials for Weekend A-10 Series

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team returns home for the first time more than three weeks, hosting George Washington for a four-game Atlantic 10 series Friday, May 7 through Sunday, May 9 at Spuhler Field in Fairfax, Va. 
 
Last time out, Mason (9-22, 2-10 A-10) dropped the final game of its series against VCU, 11-2, last Sunday at The Diamond in Richmond.  The Rams swept the four-game series.
 
Mason is 41-36 all-time against George Washington.  Since joining the Atlantic 10 in 2014, the Patriots are 7-11 overall in 18 regular-season games against the Colonials.  Since the 2006 season, the Patriots are 10-7 overall at home against the Colonials.
 
The Patriots are 3-6 in their last nine games against the Colonials at Spuhler Field, and 4-5 over the last nine regular-season contests against George Washington at Barcroft Park in Arlington.
 
In the last meeting between the two teams, George Washington took two-of-three games April 6-7, 2019.  The Colonials won the first game, 16-7 and the final game of the series, 8-5, while the Patriots claimed the middle game, 13-2.
 
Sophomore infielder/outfielder South Trimble is batting .318 (27-for-85) with four doubles, one triple, one home run, 12 RBI and 15 runs scored in 23 games.  He is tied for third on the club in hits (27), tied for fourth in doubles (4), and tied for fifth in RBI (12).
 
Senior catcher/outfielder Bailey Klein has a .299 average (26-for-87) with six doubles, one triple, 13 RBI and seven runs scored in 25 games.  He is third on the team in hits (26), tied for second in doubles (6) and fourth in RBI (13).
 
Senior designated hitter/first baseman Scott Morgan is hitting .299 (32-for-107) with five home runs, seven doubles, two triples, 23 RBI and 16 runs scored in 30 games.  He leads the club in hits (32), home runs (5), doubles (7), RBI (23), and total bases (58).
 
Senior outfielder Cam Reckling is batting .281 (27-for-96) with six doubles, one home run, 14 RBI and 10 runs scored.  He is tied for second on the club in hits (27) and doubles (6), and ranks third in RBI (14).
 
On the mound, junior Jared Lyons (4-2, 3.86, 53.2 IP) and graduate student Ryan Stoudemire (1-8, 8.45, 33.0 IP) share the team lead with nine starts each.  Among A-10 leaders, Lyons ranks tied for third in wins (4), fourth in opponent batting average (.198), fifth in strikeouts (58), eighth in innings pitched (53.2) and 17th in ERA (3.86).
 
Freshman Kieran Versaw-Barnes (1-5, 6.25, 36.0 IP) is second on the club with seven starts.  He leads the team in complete games (2), ranks second in innings pitched (36.0) and is third in strikeouts (29).  Junior Nick Zegna leads the club in appearances (10) and has recorded one save.
 
The Patriots are hitting .253 and have a team ERA of 7.04 through 31 games.

SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
 
George Washington has an overall record of 19-12, including a mark of 8-4 in A-10 play.  The Colonials are 14-10 at home and 5-2 on the road.
 
Last time out, George Washington split a four-game series against Saint Louis at Barcroft Field in Arlington, Va.
 
The Colonials won the first game of the series, 10-7 on Friday, April 30.  The two teams then split a seven-inning doubleheader on Saturday, May 1.  The Billikens claimed game one, 7-2 in eight innings, while the Colonials won game two, 14-7.  In the series finale, Saint Louis scored seven runs over the final two innings for a 9-7 victory.       
 
George Washington began Atlantic 10 play this season taking three-of-four from VCU April 9-11 at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Va.  After dropping the first game series, 6-4, the Colonials then swept a doubleheader, 5-4 and 3-2, and then won the finale 5-4.
 
In their first road series in A-10 play, George Washington won three-of-four games at Davidson April 23-25 at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C. 
 
The Colonials swept a doubleheader from the Wildcats, posting 4-2 and 10-2 victories on Friday, April 23 and then split a doubleheader on Sunday, April 25 with an 8-1 win in game one and a 5-4 loss in the night cap.
 
George Washington has a record of 5-2 in one-run games this season.  
 
Graduate student infielder/outfielder Steve Barmakian is batting .368 (43-for-117) with 10 doubles, one triple, 19 RBI and 25 runs scored in 31 games played.  He ranks fourth in the A-10 in batting average (.368) and is 15th in hits (43).
 
Sophomore infielder/outfielder Steve DiTomaso is hitting .367 (36-for-98) with two doubles, three triples, 19 RBI and 22 runs scored in 27 games.  He is sixth in the A-10 in batting average (.367) and 28th in hits (36).  
 
Junior infielder Noah Levin has a .345 average (40-for-116) with eight doubles, two triples, three home runs, 30 RBI and 21 runs scored in 31 games.  He is 13th in the league in RBI (30). 
 
Junior outfielder Cade Fergus is batting .314 (32-for-102) with eight doubles, two home runs, 21 RBI and 27 runs scored in 31 games.
 
On the mound, junior Harrison Cohen (4-2, 3.45, 44.1 IP) leads the team in starts (7), complete games (2), innings pitched (44.1) and strikeouts (50).  He ranks tied for fourth in the A-10 in wins (4), seventh in the league in ERA (.3.45), eighth in strikeouts (50) and 17th in innings pitched (44.1).
 
Graduate student Elliott Raimo (2-1, 3.57, 22.2) is second on the club in starts (5), third in strikeouts (25) and sixth in innings pitched (22.2).
 
Senior Trevor Kuncl (2-1, 4.72, 26.2 IP) leads the Colonials in appearances (15) and saves (6).  He is second on the team in strikeouts (26) and third in innings pitched (26.2).  Graduate student Jaret Edwards (4-2, 3.47, 36.1 IP) is tied for first on the team in wins (4), second in appearances (13) and innings pitched (36.1), and third in starts (4). 
 
George Washington is hitting a league-leading .306 and has a team ERA of 5.12 through 31 games this season.
