FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University women basketball head coach
Vanessa Blair-Lewis has announced the signing of Bethune-Cookman transfer Jayla Adams, who will compete for the Patriots beginning in 2021-22.
Adams, a 5-foot-6 guard, comes to Fairfax following two seasons with the Wildcats.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jayla to Mason Nation," said Blair-Lewis. "Her knowledge of the game, skill at the guard position and intense passion are going to allow her to excel here and in the Atlantic 10."
Adams, the 2018 Daytona Beach News-Journal Player of the Year, led Spruce Creek High to its first-ever Florida 9A State Championship in 2018. She averaged 16.9 points and 5.1 assists per game her senior season under head coach Kelvin Hamm.
The Daytona Beach, Fla., native was an All-Area selection all four years at Spruce Creek. She was named to both the Deep South Classic and Miami Suns Memorial Day Classic All-Tournament Teams.
She played her collegiate freshman season at Florida Atlantic University, appearing in 19 games with four starts. She averaged 4.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game and scored a career-high nine points on three occasions – Georgia State, Old Dominion and Michigan State.
Adams joins Mason's incoming class that features a trio of talented transfers in Amaya Scott (Bethune-Cookman), J-Naya Ephraim (Illinois) and Angelee Rodriguez (USF).
