DAVIDSON, N.C. – The George Mason baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Davidson, 5-4 in the first game and 8-7 in the night cap, on Saturday at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C.
GAME ONE (7 INNINGS)
The Patriots (11-26, 4-14 A-10) fell behind Davidson (23-21, 7-11 A-10) in the first inning.
The Wildcats loaded the bases with a hit by pitch, a walk and a single against Mason junior starter
Jared Lyons with one out. Davidson junior first baseman John Hosmer drove the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly.
Senior left fielder Ruben Fontes then scrambled home on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. Sophomore right fielder Henry Koehler followed with a RBI-single to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the bottom of the second, Davidson sophomore second baseman Jacob Hinderleider led off with a solo home run to center field to make the score 4-0.
The Patriots dented the scoreboard in the top of the fourth against Wildcats junior starter Gabe Levy.

Kyle Hayes were both hit be a pitch to load the bases.
After a strike out, graduate student first baseman
Ryan Stoudemire came through with a two-run single to cut the lead to 4-2. Sophomore second baseman
Brett Stallings then reached on an error, with Hayes racing home to make it a one-run game at 4-3.
With one out in the fifth, Reckling walked, Klein singled and Morgan singled to load the bases against Davidson sophomore reliever Nolan DeVos. Hayes followed with a walk to force in Reckling with the tying run.
In the home half of the seventh, Fontes led off with a single against Mason junior reliever
Matthew Henson. With two outs in the inning and the bases loaded after a pair of walks, Hinderleider delivered with a RBI-singled through the right side for the walk-off 5-4 victory.
For the Patriots, Lyons surrendered four runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings in a no-decision. Henson (0-2) gave up one run on two hits in the ninth and took the loss.
For the Wildcats, Levy allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits in 4.0 innings in a no-decision. DeVos (5-0) gave up one run on two hits in 3.0 innings and earned the win.
Reckling went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored a run, while Stoudemire drove in two runs for the Patriots.
GAME TWO (7 INNINGS)
Mason (11-27, 4-15 A-10) again fell behind Davidson (24-21, 8-11 A-10) in the first inning.
Fontes and junior designated hitter Trevor Candelaria put together back-to-back RBI-doubles against Mason junior starter
Nick Zegna to put the Wildcats in front 2-0. Candelaria moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on freshman first baseman Ryan Wilson's sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
In the home half of the second, Hinderleider led off with a solo home run, while Koehler drove in a run with a double and also scored on a wild pitch to double the lead to 6-0.
Davidson tacked on another run in the third against Mason junior reliever
Peter Nielsen. With two outs, Wildcats junior center fielder Parker Nolan was hit by a pitch and after a walk, he scored on a double by Koehler to increase the advantage to 7-0.
The Patriots began the comeback in the fourth against Wildcats senior starter Jacob Walker, with a two-out RBI-single by Morgan to make it 7-1.
In the fifth, the Patriots sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs on four hits against Davidson relievers Brian Craven and Jake Biederman.

Jack DeLongchamps each drove in two runs with singles, while Stoudemire knocked in a pair with a double to tie the game, 7-7.
In the bottom of the fifth, Nielsen issued two one-out walks before Mason made the call to the bullpen for graduate student reliever
Jonathan Kaiser. Koehler then drove in his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly to right-center, with Nolan scoring all the way from second base on the play to account for the 8-7 final score.
For the Patriots, Zegna allowed six runs on five hits in 1.2 innings in a no-decision. Nielsen (0-1) surrendered two runs on one hit in 2.2 innings and took the loss, while Kaiser went 1.2 scoreless.
For the Wildcats, Walker allowed one run on two hits in 4.0 innings. Craven surrendered three runs on two hits and didn't retire a batter. Biederman (4-1) gave up three runs on four hits in 3.0 innings and picked up the win.
Trimble, DeLongchamps and Stoudemire each drove in two runs for the Patriots.
The Patriots and Wildcats wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Wilson Field.
