FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team plays its final match of the 2021 spring season, hosting VCU on Saturday afternoon, with the kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.

Last time out, Mason (0-5-3, 0-2-3 A-10) fell to George Washington, 1-0, on Saturday, April 3, at GW Soccer Field.

The Colonials scored the lone goal of the match in the 35th minute of play.  Mason freshmen midfielders Daniel Chica and Christopher Schray, along with freshman forward Peter Kim each recorded a shot on goal. 

Mason freshman goalkeeper Jackson Lee, who has started every game this season, made five saves against George Washington.  The Colonials outshot the Patriots, 14-9, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Mason is 10-15-11 in 36 all-time meetings against VCU.

The two teams played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on March 20 at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond.

The Patriots recorded seven of their 11 shot attempts in the first half and outshot the Rams 11-5 in the game.  Each club had three shots on goal.  Lee made three saves for the Patriots. 

Sophomore forward Kent Harrison led all players with four shots and placed one on goal, while freshman midfielder Ishmail Kamara led all players with two shots on goal in the match in 90 minutes of action. 

Junior midfielder Nicolas Anguil-Andriacchi, junior defender Jakob Ryander, freshman Christopher Schray and freshman defenders Noah McGrath and James Cornwell each played all 110 minutes in the last meeting.

Harrison leads the team in goals (2) and points (4) and is second on the club in shots on goal (7).  Kamara is second on the team in goals (1) and leads the Patriots in shots (15) and shots on goal (8). 

Lee (0-5-3, 1.58 GAA) has made 30 saves and allowed 14 goals in eight games played.

SCOUTING VCU

VCU has an overall record of 3-3-2, including a mark of 2-2-1 in Atlantic 10 play.  The Rams are 1-2-1 at home and 2-1-1 on the road.

Last time out, VCU defeated George Washington, 2-1, in overtime on April 7 at Sports Backers Stadium.

Sophomore defender Ethan Manheim scored his first career goal on a header in the 21st minute to tie the game, 1-1.  George Washington scored an own-goal in the first minute of overtime to give the Rams the victory.

The Rams outshot the Colonials, 13-3, including a 7-2 margin in shots on goal.  VCU had six corner kicks in the match.

The Rams kept their post-season hopes alive and are one point behind George Washington and Davidson in the Atlantic 10 Central division standings.  To qualify for the A-10 Tournament, VCU needs a win against the Patriots and need the match between Davidson and George Washington to end in a draw.

Pompeu leads the club in goals (3), points (6), shots (11) and shots on goal (6).  Manheim is tied for second on the team in goals (1) and is second points (3).
 
Sequeira (2-3-2, 0.67) has made 18 saves and allowed five goals in seven games played.  Sophomore goalkeeper John Ermini (1-0-1, 2.00) made four saves and allowed two goals in his one game this season.

VCU leads the all-time series, 15-10-11.  The Patriots have faced the Rams 36 times, sixth-most of any opponent in program history, behind William & Mary (47), Albany (46), George Washington (46), James Madison (41) and Old Dominion (38).

The 11 draws against the Rams are the most that the Patriots have had against any opponent.
