Mason Falls in 15 Innings on Friday

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team (13-6, 8-5 A-10) fell to Saint Louis by a score of 5-4 in 15 innings on Friday night.
 
The two teams battled for nearly four and a half hours into the late night inside the George Mason Softball Complex.
 
The Billikens got out to an early one-run lead in the first inning. Mason would answer with a four-run second inning to take a comfortable 4-1 lead.
 
Saint Louis then tied the contest at four in the third inning with a pair of runs.
 
The two squads would hold each other scoreless for the next 12 innings, until the Billikens broke through in the top of the 15th inning with an RBI triple.
 
Saint Louis would win in the bottom of the 15th after a controversial call at the plate ended the night for the Patriots.
 
Graduate student Bekah Ansbro had a career outing for Mason, pitching a career high 14.1 innings and recording a career high 21 strikeouts. Ansbro reached nearly 300 pitches thrown on the night.
 
Junior Amber Verstynen went 2-for-7 with two RBI. Senior Saige Cisler  went 2-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored for Mason. Sophomore Allison Torstensen recorded her second RBI of the season, along with a walk.

Mason hosts Saint Louis Saturday for a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is slated for noon ET.
