FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team concluded the 2021 spring season, falling to VCU, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at George Mason Stadium.
Mason seniors
Michael Diehl,
VanDyke Gyau,
Matt Scoliere,
Mads Tranberg and
Andreas Varlas Tsaousis were recognized prior to the match.
The Patriots (0-6-3, 0-3-3 A-10) and Rams (4-3-2, 3-2-1 A-10) remained scoreless until the final eight minutes of play in the second half, when VCU tallied twice in a span of 1:41.
VCU freshman defender Ethan Manheim scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 83rd minute to put the Rams in front 1-0. Freshman midfielder William Hitchcock picked up the assist.
Less than two minutes later, VCU freshman midfielder Wladimir Gassant scored his first goal with the Rams to increase the advantage to 2-0.
Mason freshman midfielder
Ishmail Kamara led all players with four shots and two shots on goal, while Diehl and Tranberg each registered one shot. Tsaousis made two saves in the match.
