FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's basketball head coach Kim English has announced that former Colorado star D'Shawn Schwartz has signed with the Green & Gold for the 2020-21 campaign.

As a graduate transfer, Schwartz has one season of eligibility remaining and will provide an immediate impact for the Patriots.

"We are so excited and fortunate to have D'Shawn Schwartz join our Mason Basketball Family," English said. "D'Shawn is a gifted scorer, playmaker and unbelievable teammate. His size, strength, ball skills and shooting ability will allow him the freedom to play all over the court in our system. D'Shawn is a 1,000-point scorer in the Pac-12 and has played on two top-25 teams in his four years at Colorado. His experience will be of great value to our ball club."

A three-year starter for the Buffaloes, Schwartz tallied 1,026 career points and made 156 3-pointers over his four seasons in Boulder. Over the past three seasons, he has started 95 of his 97 games played at CU.

This past season, the Colorado Springs product put together his most efficient campaign to date. Schwartz averaged 9.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and shot a sizzling 40 percent from 3-point range (8th in Pac-12), playing an integral part in Colorado's run to the NCAA Round of 32. The Buffaloes finished the season eighth overall in KenPom.

Schwartz averaged 15.5 points, 3.0 assists and shot 64.7 percent from the floor in two 2021 NCAA Tournament games while making an absurd 66.7 percent of his 3-point attempts. He tallied 18 points and made 5-of-7 3-pointers in the NCAA First Round win over Georgetown.

"D'Shawn got a taste of winning in the NCAA Tournament this past season," English said. "His hunger to get back to the Big Dance appealed to what we are trying to re-create here at Mason. I coached D'Shawn for two seasons with the Buffs and Coach Tomlinson coached him for three. That trust and familiarity played a big role in us choosing each other."

As a junior, Schwartz led Colorado in 3-point field goals made (51) and attempted (139), ranked third on the team in scoring (9.8 ppg), assists (44) and steals (23), and was a top-15 3-point shooter in the Pac-12.

Possessing a flair for the dramatic, Schwartz came through in the clutch when the Buffaloes needed it most over his career. His last-second 3-pointer gave the 2019-20 Dayton squad one of just two losses on its season, while his last-second putback vs. #24 USC in the 2021 Pac-12 Tournament sent Colorado into the championship game.

Schwartz graduated from Sand Creek High School in Colorado Springs, was an All-Colorado selection by the Denver Post and All-USA Colorado pick after averaging 25.7 points as a senior. A McDonald's All-America nominee, he earned Class 4A All-State honors by the Denver Post.

A consensus four-star prospect, Schwartz was an ESPN100 member, rated as the 69th best player in the nation and the top player in the state of Colorado. Rivals listed Schwartz at the No. 67 spot nationally while Scout had him at 89th and the 19th best wing in the country.
