Game Recap: Softball |
TOWSON, Md. – The George Mason softball team's (9-5, 4-4 A-10) bats help to split a doubleheader with Towson on Saturday afternoon inside the Tiger Softball Stadium.

The Patriots dropped the first game by a score of 2-3 in a nine inning affair, but would go on to cruise to an 8-1 victory in game two.

"The team did a great job of bouncing back from the first game," head coach Justin Walker said. "We now have to put ourselves in a position to win the series tomorrow."

The victory snapped a five-game losing skid for the Patriots. Mason's bats seemed to get back intact on Saturday, as Mason tallied 10 runs on 13 hits through the two contests.

GAME ONE: Towson 3, Mason 2 (F/9)
The Patriots took the first lead of the day thanks to freshman Marlaina Bozek's RBI single in the fourth inning, scoring junior EJ Bankson.

The Tigers would later answer with two runs in the sixth inning to take a one-run advantage.

With the Patriots' back against the wall in the top of the seventh, down one run, sophomore Rachel Warrens made a heads up play on the base paths, forcing a Towson error that would allow her to score.

The game would continue to extra innings where the Tigers walked it off in the bottom of the ninth.

Bozek went 3-for-3 with one RBI and a walk in the first game of the day.

GAME TWO: Mason 8, Towson 1
Mason bounced back in the second game quick, earning a three-run first inning.

The Patriots added another insurance run in the second inning and finished the game with four runs in the top of the seventh.

Bankson recorded a career high four RBI in the win, including a three-run, base-clearing triple in the seventh inning.

Fellow junior Taylor Dadig added a hit and two RBI. The sophomore duo of Warrens and Annie Villalobos each earned RBI's of their own in the win.

Graduate student Bekah Ansbro tallied her fourth win of the season, improving her overall record to 4-1. The right-hander tallied three strikeouts, allowing just five hits and one earned run in a complete game performance.

UP NEXT
The Patriots finish their three-game series against Towson with a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. ET inside Tiger Softball Stadium.
